Vietnamese Woman With Son

Bent under the weight of life and responsibilities, ready to eke out whatever work she can find so she and her child can survive. Reaping rice is her way of showing the world she will not bow to the vagaries set before her. Her child will not suffer the starvation or wartime scarcity she had to endure.

Joe created this piece after seeing photos of war-torn Vietnam. He was inspired by the harshness of their daily lives; the struggles of the left behind. Much of it had been caused by the fighting during the sixties, and he wanted to share how the aftermath shaped the innocents of Vietnam long after the fighting ended.
