Commuters

Joe created Commuters as a submission for a local Connecticut art show. Its theme highlighted the platform of the Norwalk Train Station. The rotating piece represents faces of commuters during rush hour. Depicting people as they wait, each small in the overall theme of commuter life, yet busy with their particular world’s thoughts - anticipating the ride into New York City to begin their day, or leaving at its end, perhaps exhausted after a day at work. Maybe it was a day of shopping at Bloomingdales or attending a Broadway show. Whatever their reason, each is depicted as weary and ready to head home.

All have something in common - life away from the office.

Carved from a large chunk of Birdseye Maple recovered from the side of the rural street of Joe’s boyhood home. The street is aptly named Birdseye Road, located in the White Hills section of Shelton Connecticut. Joe later moved back to Birdseye Road where he resided for 20+ years and created all of his art.
