Masked Emotions

His last major piece, this is Joe’s interpretation of 4 individuals or 1 woman with different emotions. However you choose to view this, Joe’s intent was to showcase the figure in motion. What better way than by expressing the emotions most choose to hide using a smile as a mask, a hug for connection or a sense of concentration?

Perhaps a simple nod of recognition for the human spirit is all that’s necessary to rejoice in the feeling of being intertwined with another.

Carved from a large chunk of Birdseye Maple recovered from the side of the rural street of Joe’s boyhood home. The street is, aptly named Birdseye Road, located in the White Hills section of Shelton Connecticut. Joe later moved back to Birdseye Road where he resided for 20+ years and created all of his art.
